Research and Projects
Current Research Projects at the Department of Geoinformatics:
- 3D/4D Geoinformation Systems
- Geographical and Environmental Databases
- Building topology in any dimensional spaces for applications of Construction and Geoinformatics
- Database support for cooperative route planning in 3D City Models
- Mobile Information Systems
- Vertical movements of the Earth's crust
- Optimisation, adjustment and analysis of Geodetic Networks
The newly established Geoinformatics Research Network at KIT, in close collaboration with the Institute for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing (IPF) as well as international partners, acts as an interdisciplinary “hub” linking together the fields of Geodesy, Earth Sciences, and Geoinformatics. Through the combination of Geoinformatics and Geodesy, new fields of research are to be developed.
In the AUD-KIT Geoinformatics Group joint research and teaching activities are carried out in collaboration with the School of Engineering, American University in Dubai (AUD) (see also 9th International Conference 3D GeoInfo).
The research focuses of 3D/4D Geographical Information Systems and spatial databases are part of a long tradition at the University (see also SFB 350).
