The Geodetic Institute continued its more than 130-year tradition of conducting main surveying exercises in the Black Forest this year. From July 28 to August 8, 2025, second-semester students in the Geodesy and Geoinformatics program were able to put the surveying knowledge and skills they acquired last year into practice. The task was to survey a specific area topographically and represent it as a CAD plan. To do this, they had to consolidate the existing control point field using geometric levelling and polygon chains. This was followed by terrain surveying with tachymeters and GPS. In addition to the usual challenges such as harvesting work and curious herds of cows, rainy weather played a particularly important role this time. Despite everything, the students completed the task to everyone's satisfaction and were able to use the time together at the Schlempen recreation center to get to know each other better and grow together as a study group.
